Re: Discontinuance of the Garra Sutra (“fish bath”) process

Dear Department of Licensing,

On October 1, 2008, I received a letter from the Department of Licensing notifying our salon to discontinue the use of fish pedicures, because the service violated WAC 308-20-110, the provision that regulates minimum safety and sanitation standards for manicurists. I respectfully request that you reconsider your position and that you schedule a hearing, so that we can more fully address your concerns. If a formal complaint is required to request a hearing, please provide me with that form so I can comply with the Department’s rules.

Prior to offering the fish bath service, sometimes called “fish pedicure,” to our clients, our salon researched the procedure. We have documentation and studies which show that our procedure is sanitary and has been approved for use in numerous jurisdictions throughout the United States and abroad. We have also implemented new safety procedures since the Department of Licensing was in, further ensuring the health and safety of our customers and the environment.

These procedures include a system that automatically changes the water between pedicures to ensure that there is no unhealthy residue or waste in the tank, a large supply of fish which allows us to change fish between customers, and a UV system that filters the water before it goes into the drainage system which addresses the Department of Fish and Wildlife concerns. We would like the opportunity to share this information with the Department of Licensing, so that it will have more complete information with which to reconsider its ruling.

Prior to the October 1 ruling, we performed the service on dozens of clients who were eager to try this innovative beauty treatment. Since the ruling, many customers have come out in support of the treatment and have asked if they can sign a waiver acknowledging that they understand the state’s ruling but want the treatment anyway. Is this allowed under any circumstance?

We look forward to your reply and the opportunity to discuss this during an upcoming hearing.

Sincerely,

Tuyet “Tweety” Bui, Co-owner

FISH FRIDAY at
Peridot Nail Salon

Peridot Nail Salon Brings Fish Pedicures to the
Pacific Northwest for Fish Friday

Tuyet "Tweety" Bui, co-owner of Peridot Nail Salon, announced today that it will offer fish pedicures starting this Friday, September 19.

In this unconventional treatment, a salon guest's feet are dunked into a small fish tank filled with hundreds of tiny chin chin fish, also called doctor fish. During a typical 15-minute, warm-water soak, the fish nibble at dead skin, leaving the feet soft and smooth. First made popular in Turkey and Asia, fish pedicures made news headlines on across the nation.

Peridot Nail Salon is excited about being the first salon in the Pacific Northwest to offer fish pedicures, Tweety is kicking off the treatment with Fish Friday, offering 15-minute soaks at a discounted price of $20.

Split Sunday

Hello Bloggers!!!!

I started my day at the nail salon this morning. We had a busy morning but it dies down a little so I wandered off to Topaz. It's nice and quiet in here. We have a few shoppers in here but they're self sufficient so I thought I take this oppotunity to share with you a few of my thoughts. It has been bothering me for a while now but I think I'm finally ready to face the music.

As a business owner, I always stride to succeed by providing the best products and services to each and every single clients. However, as a human being, I am not perfect. There are times when we get really busy and the minor details somehow got lost and forgotten, and the level of service is not always at its best. Having just said that, I want each of you bloggers out there to know that I always stand behind my services.

(...things go really busy at the salon, so I had to go back there to work.)

It's Monday night.....

To finish my thoughts....I'd like for all of you to know that if there are ever any instance when you're not happy with the services; please bring it to my attention. If I'm not there, please call me. I always look for ways to provide the best and upmost services. I'm a strong believer in "continuous improvements".
